The Government of the DRC expects data and information from scientists that will make it possible to know with precision the value of the ecosystems of the country and the Congo Basin, Eve Bazaiba at the Meeting of Scientists in Yangambi

The meeting of Scientists in Yangambi as part of the preparatory work for COP27 opened on Monday, September 05, 2022 in this region located in the territory of Isangi in the province of Tshopo.

Scientists from all over the world reflect for 3 days, from September 95 to September 07, 2022, on the "contribution of the forests of the Congo Basin and other tropical basins on the planet to the fight against climate change: state of play and prospects".
The Deputy Prime Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development, who leads her activities, returned in her words to the symbolism represented by the double choice of Yangambi to house this work.

From a historical point of view, Eve Bazaiba Masudi points out, the Yangambi concession established in 1933, which constitutes one of the most important agricultural research institutions at the international level, employing more than 350 researchers from all over the world, is currently part of the global network of biosphere reserves.

On the prospective level, with the flux tower, Yangambi constitutes a significant contribution to the global climate cause and especially to the "positioning of the DRC as a Country-Solution to the climate crisis", continues the Deputy Prime Minister.

In this regard, at the end of Yangambi's work, the Congolese Government expects the formalization of reliable data and information to prove the exact value of the ecosystem services of the DRC and the Congo Basin and also to demonstrate the effective means of improving their protection with a view to contributing to the fight against climate change.

The scientific segment ends this Wednesday, September 07, 2022 with a joint statement called Yangambi.

The Ministerial session of the Pre-COP27 in partnership with Egypt, will take place from October 03 to 05 in Kinshasa at the People's Palace.
